Research and Development
  • Abaca Expansion - the development of new abaca areas to increase abaca production to meet local and foreign demand and to increase farmers' income.
  • Rehabilitation of old and unproductive abaca plantation and disease-free areas.
  • Sustained Abaca Disease Management Program
  • Production of clean and disease-free abaca planting materials in five (5) tissue culture laboratories supported by seven (7) seedbanks and open-type abaca nurseries
  • Viral disease detection in abaca thru ELISA testing in three (3) diagnistic laboratories
  • Anti-sera production for use in diagnostic laboratories for detection of abaca diseases
  • Young-age rearing of silkworm for distribution to farmers in FIDA Sericulture Centers
  • Conduct skills training on livelihood for out-of-school youths and housewives to increase income of farmers
  • Laboratory services on fiber testing

  • Development of production technologies through conduct of agricultural researches on Crop Improvement, Crop Production, Crop Protection and on agricultural engineering (soil and water & post harvest)
  • Development/adoption of technologies on the utilization of plant fibers

Market Development Program
  • Fiber Trade Promotion thru participation in local and international trade fairs and exhibits in cooperation with CITEM, DTI, Philippine embassies abroad as well as conduct of other market-related events

  • Licensing Services - Issuance of Licenses to fiber industry participants which include Grading and Baling Establishments (GBEs), buying stations, trader exporter, local traders, fiber processors and fiber classifiers. It also entails continuous monitoring and evaluation of their facilities to ensure they conform with FIDA regulations
  • Fiber Inspection and Enforcement of Grading Standards - strict enforcement of fiber grading standards to ensure that fibers being traded conform to government standards to maintain the Philippines competitive position in the international market
  • Formulation of plans, programs, coordination, monitoring and evaluation
  • Conduct of consultations and meetings with the industry sector
  • implementation of Data Monitoring System for the fiber industry
  • Attendance to foreign mission such as the FAO/UNCTAD working group on hard fibers
