Opportunities/Prospects and Developments
Salago fiber is a popular material for handmade papermaking. Any favorable developments in the domestic handmade paper industry will have a domino effect on the demand for salago fiber. Moreover, salago is considered as the Philippines’ counterpart of Japanese “kozo” or paper mulberry, the main material used in Japan for handmade papermaking.
The sustained growth of the industry relies heavily on the demand of the export market as the great majority or 81.2% of available supply was transported abroad.
