• Its limited application and availability of cheaper substitutes;
• Two-year production cycle of the crop;
• Low prices offered to farmers/gatherers vis-a-vis the time consuming and laborious
• process of fiber extraction;
• Limited domestic market; and,
• Erratic demand of some importing countries.
